Dear Dashama, Aloha, Your Karma gives me hope-when I look at you I know there is love and something good will happen! Let me tell you something. Many bad things happened to my life (though I am just turning 27) I have lost my way to where I want to go and even worse I lost myself. After being suspended from work I have lost the believe in myself completely. Deep pain has entered my life and I thought I can't get out. Hi Dashama,

Thanks for a great yoga practice on Saturday. One thing that made it meaningful for me was the sense I got that your expectations about my practice were higher than mine. And I started thinking that maybe my own expectations were holding me back.

At the Ashtanga studio I go to in CT, they do Second Series (which I find challenging) on the first Sunday of the month. Yesterday morning I had the best Second Series I've had, not by efforting more, but by consciously letting go of my expectations about what I could and couldn't do and just seeing where each pose took me. I've known for a long time that people tend to create their own obstacles. But sometimes we need a little help getting out of our own way.

Next time I'm in Boca, I hope I get the chance to practice with you again.

A Yoga Success Story...

Years of leg and back pain, weakened muscles, and limping had eventually damaged my hip joint. Severe osteoarthritis required an immediate total hip replacement. My children were toddlers. I looked forward to being able to walk and not have constant pain, but this was not realized even 7 years after surgery. I saw Physical Therapists, orthopedic surgeons, chiropractors, acupuncturists, other yoga teachers, and a neurologist. My hip movements were severely limited and so were my daily activities.

Nothing was working...

I was eventually recommended to Dashama for yoga.

For the first time, someone carefully figured out which specific muscles were causing the pain and limitation. She carefully positioned and repositioned me until the weak/atrophied muscles were finally stretched. She was sensitive to my pain and limits. Especially important is that she encourages me to focus on not holding my muscles back out of fear. I need to relax mentally, so I can relax physically. I feel confident and safe with her knowledge of how the body works and inspired by her wisdom of the mind's power.

I can now touch the floor while standing, sit on the floor and get up with my own muscle power and tie my shoes.

My flexibility is now greater than I imagined possible. I have confidence that with Dashama's guidance my body will continue to improve in strength and flexibility.

My goals are to ride a bicycle, play on the floor with my young children, take long walks and am looking forward to doing the full wheel pose!"
